Disease BLOCKING OF NOSTRILS
   
Treatment Block of Nostrils If one nostril is blocked constantly.Then there has to be some obstruction look for nasal polyp.

   1. If there is mucus discharge and grape like glistening white polyp- it is nasal polyp from ethmoidal or maxillary sinus.
   2. If mucopurulent or blood stained discharge is seen from the blocked nostril, in children suspect a Foreign body and in elderly patients, suspect a malignant growth.

 Intermitting blocking of either nostril Examine the inside of the nostril, by turning the nose up and pointing a good torch.

   1. Look at the nasal septum on both sides for deviation to one side.
   2. Inspect both inferior turbinates for hypertrophy.
   3. Shiny white, grape-like polyps.
   4. Test tenderness over maxillary sinuses for sinusitis.
   5. Mucosal Edema in colds or Rhinitis.

 When blocking is intermittent

   1. 3 drops of ghee of liquid paraffin in both nostrils x tds.
   2. Deep breathing exercise (Pranayam) Inhale deeply and slowly through the nostril, hold breath for 2 secons then exhale slowly and repeat 20 times x tds.
   3. NAvision nasal drops 1-2 drops x 1-3 times x when nostril is blocked, for symptomatic relief. (Oxymetazolin 0.05%) ot Otrivin or Efcorlin or Dristan Nasal drops
   4. Tab. Alday 10mg OD or BD x 30 days or Tab. FORISTAL 1 bd x 30
   5. If no response refer to ENT.

 Remember that mild degrees if deviated nasal septum or inferior turbinate hypertrophy, the above treatment is enough
